I have been looking at them at harbor freight, the fact they are only $5.00 really tempts me but I'm not sure what it would come in handy for. Have any of you bought one? If so, do you even ever use it for anything? They are just so badass.

My brother has one and I don't think he's ever used it for anything but a dust collector under his bed.

ive only used one in the woods. i've got a place that i ride dirt bikes with some friends, its off the road (can only get there with a truck) we used machettes to clear paths out between the openings. i never bought the harbor freight ones tho i have looked at them.

I would imagine that for $5, the quality isn't that high. But then again, what do you have to lose, it's only $5.

I use one regularly. Cheap ones are crap and to be avoided. My current one was brought back from the jungles of South America by a former co-worker. It's phenomenal. About 8" longer than a typical US machete and a thinner blade.

Cheap ones don't hold an edge, or worst case I had one that actually bent the blade when I hit a hard dead dried branch with it.
