My roomate and I dueling...dragon ball z style...I'm the one on the left.
Neyland Stadium at night
Some of you may have seen this on the internet or in the sprint commercial: http://youtube.com/watch?v=lW_9SYaWAQg
I saw this on the internet and thought it was awesome so I decided to see if my camera could do it too and it did, ^those are some of my favorite ones but I've done a lot.
All you need is a camera with an adjustable exposure and a tripod. It's sort of like time lapse photography. I was using my canon sd1000, you set the exposure time to the longest it will go, mine's 15 seconds. You use led's or any type of light and just draw stuff in the air, it will pick up only the light, anything moving(like your body) won't be shown it's pretty cool.
I'm a sophomore at the university of Tennessee, all these photos were taken around campus, we just roamed around campus around 2-3 in the morning when no ones out. We snuck into neyland stadium one night, it was awesome because you never get to see it like that with nobody there, it's just silent.
You can animate them by putting taking multiple pictures like stop motion basically like they did in the sprint video but that takes a lot of time and effort.

The pictures look great. Could you provide more specifics on the settings? I want to see if I can do something similar with my Rebel XTi

Polaris, I don't have anything to say except what has been said. I was looking at this thread last night and I absoloutely love those pictures mang. You too visionz. It is really cool what you guys did and I had thought those effects were achieved by using computers. Now that I know it is actually light being moved around with a long exposure picture, it gives me alot more respect for the work. Good job and I'd like to see more.

Thanks for all the comments, here's an explanation i took from some blog site on how to do it:
to get the best results you need a tripod. the exposure should be around 10-30 sec. or longer if needed. stay in front of the camera and do your writing.
to not overexpose set the camera to about iso100, and close your aperture as much as possible. if there is still too much light you might have to use a nd-filter.it is always nice to integrate the surrounding into your picture.
