Agreed. Freedom of speech. Our FIRST right! Protect it.

This dude may be an a**hole, but he didn't break the law.

Did we just agree on something?

Though I'm not sure what makes him an a**hole any more than any other propaganda film maker. Personally I'd like to team up with the guy to form a New World UFa.

I think we did, lol

He's an a**hole, because he made the "movie" just to get a rise out of people. Not just any people either, but some of the most volatile religious extremists on the planet, in a way that they would consider to be most blasphemous and offensive. Even Faith isn't that bad! So yes he is an a**hole, in fact I can't think of much else that one could do to be more of an a**hole. However the fact stands, what he wrote is protected by his freedom of speech.

Could he be charged with inciting a riot? I mean he is (at the very least) somewhat responsible for 4 deaths.

I knew this wouldn't last long.

Congrats, you just gave a hoard of murders an excuse.

He's not more responsible than the manufacture of the equipment he used.

Incorrect. The manufacturers said we will make a tool. The same as gun manufacturers, they only make a tool. It is up to the user to decide what they will do with said tools. Just like a gun could only be used to hunt or protect it can also be used to harm. This guy could have used his camera to film anything he wanted in any context he desired. He decided to make a film decidedly for the purpose of getting a rise out of one group of people. If I were to take a megaphone to a funeral of an openly gay person and protest that, "that person deserved to die because they were gay", I would be responsible for the outrage created amongst the mourners. The manufacturer would not be to blame, all they did was make a tool. Just because I have the right to say it, doesn't mean that I'm not responsible for what happens when I do. This is why you can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater.

I do not think this takes any responsibility off those that actually committed the murders. Just like the film maker, they decided how they would react to his film. There was an infinite string of possibilities ranging from simply ignoring the film, pushing youtube to take i down, contacting the film maker, attacking the filmmaker, attacking the filmmaker's country's embassy, etc. They are responsible for their own actions just the same as the filmmaker himself. This however, does not make him innocent.

Freedom of speech protects your right to speak, it does not protect what you say.

I have been reading more into this, and have yet to find any claims shy of Islamic sites and the Arkansas Democrat Gazette that claim this video was an attack on the Middle East. It was a film, made to entertain. I watch both of the 13 minute "trailers" and that both seemed like a dark comedy less a brutal attack on religion. It would be one thing if he uploaded it to only Islamic site, but youtube? That's hardly the domain of all that Allah knows to be pure.

Why do people want to twist this? Free the man! His imprisonment defecates on civil liberties and you ALL should be outraged.
