Default Lemons?

How am I supposed to know if I have a lemon car? My transmisson is really scratchy and hard to move from "R" to "D" (auto). When the gears shift the car jerks so hard my head hits the roof. My alignment keeps getting worse but I got it fixed. All this in 2,000 miles. So any help?

And if it is in fact a lemon, what I do from there?

Your car has to go in for the SAME repair 4 times. On that "4th" time, it is considered a lemon.

If you feel your car shifts like crap, and the dealership says it is normal. Ask to take the service manager out for a spin in one of their "for sale" auto equipped tibbies. That should show him the difference and force him to realize something is wrong and attempt a fix.

If they do not. Contact Hyundai's 1-800 number, and ask to setup an appointment with Hyundai's regional service manager. The guy will meet you at the dealership of your choice. Take him for a ride in your car. If he still stays there is no problem...take him for a ride in one of their auto tranny tibbies again. Always make sure YOU DRIVE, at least at first. You can let them try to drive after you have demonstrated the problem.

If that fails, the Hyundai Consumer Advocate on *gasp* T-H-C, is really damn good at getting results...but follow his intructions to the letter. When people work with him and do what he says, they almost always get results. If they try to work against him, or don't cooperate 100%...they rarely get results.

here's a related question....i know alot of folks with older beta engines in elantras and they all seem to be smoking now (blue). those that got their engine checked out found that it was bad rings. so if in 7years (if your car is still in the 100k warranty) and it starts to smoke, would they fix it?

Aight, I'm taking it up there ASAP to get whatever it is looked at. They haven't tryed to get out of repair for the 5 times me and my mom have been in there (she has a 2001 Elantra). It seems like God himself doesn't want me to have this car; "should of got the Elantra GT...should of got the Elantra GT...should of got the Elantra GT..."

Oh yeah, Random, or anyone, why is my car jerking hard when I reach 2 and 3 gear? Once again, I have an automatic. I rode in another automatic Tib and it didn't do that. Yikes!

Take their service manager for a test drive, you drive....show him how it shifts. If they refuse to fix it. Call the Hyundai 1-800 number and ask for the regional service manager to come out and look at it. Take HIM for a ride in your, then a new one. They should fix it.

Thanks, I'm going in tomorrow, I'm going to make sure I drive during the test. I'm guessing you've been through a lemon before?

Nope...just read one to many "war" stories off T-H-C and how the Consumer advocate got them fixed....
