Default LCD Flat Panel suggestions

Thinking about buying an LCD flat panel screen for my computer. Right now, I have just a regular 17" monitor. I've looked at placed like Best Buy, Circuit City, and Comp USA online to see what they have. Thinking maybe either another 17" flat screen or maybe even jumping up to a 19" one. What are some good brands, and stuff to look for? Also, anyone know anywhere that has better prices that Best Buy, CC, or Comp USA? Thanks for the help. wink

I'd say NEC too.

When I bought my new computer, I took a NEC 19" flat screen monitor (like a Sony Trinitron but by NEC-Mitsubishi).

You can't go wrong with NEC.

Josh, to look for low prices try www.SalesCircular.com They tell all the advertised prices for "stuff".

If you want the best flat screens, you would need a Mac. Any Apple flat screen just looks 100 times better than a PC one. wink

Personally, I would advise you against it.

You can pick up a KILLER 17" monitor for about 200. A Killer 19" for $250, and 21" are only $300-$350.

The dot pitch, max resolution and refresh rates of real monitors just can't be matched in a flat pannel.

Untill they can get a flat panel that can match .16mm dot pitch and 1600x1200 @85Hrz, save your money and go with REAL monitors.

Unless of course you only run 800x600, then flat panels might work okay for you.

My eyes are really good, and to me, Flat pannels look "fuzzy" when it comes to white on black text, and graphics. If you get a "cheap" flat pannel, it will be even worse.

Bang for the buck, I reccomend the Hitachi CM721 19". For $250, you get the specs I mentioned above. No, it's not flat, and yeah, it takes up a lot of desk real estate, but the image quality just can't be matched in a flat screen at 4 times the price.

To check prices, once you find a monitor or flat panel you want to buy. www.streetprices.com and www.pricewatch.com

Hmm..thanks everyone.

Random...yeah..the main reason why I was thinking about getting a flat panel is because of space. My 17" monitor that I currently have takes up a large portion of my computer desk. In fact, I had to knock out part of the back wall of the desk, just so that I could push the monitor back a little. What about the smaller flat panel screens. Like the 15" ones? I would hate to go down in size, but it's not a really big drop.

The thing with flat panals is that when it says 15 inches, you get all 15. With a conventional monitor when it says 17 inches, you might only get 15 or 16 inches that are actually "viewable". And if you do alot of stuff in photoshop or some other graphic program you won't like the flat panal, Random is right. wink
