Most people survive . . . until they sink. From what I heard, death is usually not from hitting the water. You've got massive blunt force trauma and internal bleeding, and if you're not in shock it will hurt worse than any pain you ever knew. If you float, you might bleed out before rescue gets to you. If not, drowning would be suck on top of suck.
