^^^ That's for damn sure...my car that I had before the Tib was rated at $2500 in the Nada guides and I think $1800 in KBB, I got to Hyundai...they wanted to give me $250...the head unit I put in there was $275...they're going to rip you off if you're trading in. Try to sell if you can, or find a used car dealer that buys for cash, because that's how I sold mine.
How are dealerships crooks for buying below what a car is worth so they can make money? rolleyes.gif
They will usually pay around $1000-2000 less than what they can sell the car for... or for closer to the value if they think they can sell the car quick. Tibs don't sell fast, so they aren't going to pay top dollar for it. You take something like an RX-7 thats in good condition, and they will pay a little more than KBB because they can sell it for 3000 over what its really worth and it will sell fast.

That's not true. In my town, you're lucky to get half of what the car is worth and they'll turn around and sell it over blue book value. Most dealerships are like this, they're out to make as much money as possible and try to get you to believe it's a good deal when it's not. That's why alot of them are crooks. If a dealer makes it a habit (which most don't) of selling a car for only a grand or two less then what it's worth, they're not gonna stay in bussiness long as they'er not guaranteed to sell all or any of their cars. They try to make as large a profit as possible to make up for cars they don't sell. It's almost always better to sell a car then trade it in...unless you can't sell it for some reason or another, then trade it in. I had friends that were in the used car business and they would brag on how badly they ripped people.
I used to work at a Hyundai dealership, and they would sell them for at least 4,000 more than what they bought them for. For example they were selling Santa Fe's for 19,000 used when you could buy a new one for 21-22,000. Yeah, I once made 3,780 as my commission for selling one of those.

Also, keep in mind, that some dealerships use a "black book" for values. This book is like NADA but much lower in values. Mostly for wholesale. They use that value and work it from there.
When I was looking at trading in the dealer actually printed off the KBB page and said this is what we can give you. Of course it was way to low so I waited until I could get a good deal
