Income taxes are voluntarily paid for most people. Several people are in jail for not having gone about it the right way, but there are a few who claim to have received letters from the IRS that their daily job's wages don't legally qualify as "income" for income tax purposes. Most of us find it not worth the hassle and possible jail time to figure out how to get such letters, and the IRS ain't sharing the good word.
