I'm interested in what you Americans think of the chinese knock-offs and legitimate "knock-offs" being made by other phone companies, of the iPhone.

I think it might be a good thing. Give apple some competition, there is no reason that the iPhone sold for as much as it did other then the fact that there was no other phone like it out on the market.
If you research the iPhone you will find out that its nothing special, it uses all basic components that any manufacturers can have access to, the only thing that isn't is the chip with the software for the phone, but like in this case that isn't that big of a deal because you can just write your own and clone the rest of the phone.

i don't have any information about those knock offs, but from what i know about knock offs and the russian black market is that it will be defective phone with no warranty. throw a bunch of asian knock off parts together and you will see.
think about it though, all the other phone companies were pushing their cheap crap because they knew there was not much time left before touch screen phones came out. they want to make the biggest profit with as little as possible. so they had no choice but to take advantage of consumers while they still could. hey why not sell thousands of Razors while they still can?
in 2000, you think if they wanted to make a touch screen internet surfing capable phone like iphone they could? sure enough? why didn't they? because they had to have something in between, a place holder (regular motorolla, samsung) to make profit.
if you guys knew about marketing, every damn thing in the world is a rip off including plane tickets. there are good things like tiburons and iphones.
i don't like the $600 begginer's price tag either. they dropped down to $400, but that's not nice of them. it is though, in a sense a mini-computer and no flaws or bugs whatsoever unlike regular japanese phones that mess up all the time. i think their price is based on what you get. iphone cannot compare to any other phone out there. it's simply the best phone in the world. it does exactly what you want and need it to do with no bullsh*t.

I think the biggest thing with the miniOne, or any other iPhone clone, is that we're going to have access to it here in there areas where there is no iPhone provider.
But the actual point of that article I posted is about the quasi-illegal clones of the iPhone. Not so much about other companies copying the idea.

hehe... magic can't see these on his treo...

I think I would buy the phone for a reasonable price tag. I wish that guy had spent more time writing about the phone and giving specs then he did about his happy vacation to Japan. I prefer tech articles to artsy-fartsy articles like that one.

I agree, the only reason I read through the whole thing was hope for more information about the phone...
They never gave him any information though, after he got there, which was gay.
I'm really excited about it because we can't get iPhones where I am at.
But, i'd prefer a pocket PC with phone capabilities anyday over a phone with PC capabilities....

??? I can easily see those. What are you talking about? Obviously nothing you know much about. The shirt posted is the only one that did not show up (thumbnail on forum shows up, link to larger pic does not), and that's because it's 1280x1024 and 225kb... when you're downloading at 96 kb/s you don't want to wait for stupid 225kb pictures to load. It shows the thumbnail because it's 680x544, but it doesn't show the 1280x1024 large pic... not that I'd ever want it to.
I like Treo over Blackberry. My wife owns a Blackberry and wants to get a Treo now that she's used mine. The blackberry has the scroll on the side, Treo's are touch-screen (can be turned off if you want, but why?). Treo has a full keyboard while not as wide as some Blackberry's with 1:1 letter to key ratio. Also, I'm with Sprint, and Treo unlimited data plans are $15 while Blackberry unlimited data is $49 (Sprint seems to have the biggest price difference between the two, other carriers aren't as different) ... that's a big difference and big reason why I went with Treo in the first place.
Forums show up great on my phone, just had to change a setting to show the "wide page" mode instead of "fast mode". All images show up on the browser unless they're 1024x780 or larger I think.

NO Offence but, Chinese are no good in anything except assembling for a cheap price. But even that, the quality control sucks balls. I don't blame the Chinese people, I blame the CHinese government. It's the governments fault for their low quality of life.
