One of the guys at work turned me on to the idea, so I started doing it. Now half the people where I work do it.
Nobody in my neighborhood did it, then I started and now look what's happened:

I used to back in everywhere. Not only does your car look cooler but it's easier to pull back out onto the road.
Then my car got egged with a couple eggs in the intercooler and a couple that ran in behind the bumper through the headlight openings. I don't back in anymore.

I back my Sorento into the garage, so we have more room to get out.
Other than that, it's standard in the Military, called "combat parking". Reason for it is if you are pulling out straight, you can get out of danger quicker with less chances of an accident in the meantime.
Most folks you see do it, I mean the orignal folks that got others caught on it, were probably servicemembers, or had one show it to them way back when.

Well the Trend in MY neighborhood is to park as horribly as you can in you driveway or not use it at all OR try and put as many cars in your driveway as you can.

I back my wife's van into the garage to unload groceries or whatever.
The guy I picked it up from is ex-navy. He spent as much time as he could flying door gunner over the Gulf of Mexico on drug interdiction missions. Before that, though, he was Detroit PD after growing up in the ghetto. He probably either picked it up from his neighbors or his co-workers somewhere along there.

If I knew who through eggs at my car it wouldn't have been combat parking! More like paintball drive by combat. mad.gif
