URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT (IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED)
URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT (IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED)
Illinois Bill to Ban Aftermarket Exhaust Systems on the Move
Illinois Bill to Ban Aftermarket Exhaust Systems on the Move A bill (H.B. 2221) to ban vehicles equipped with a “muffler or exhaust system that clearly has been modified to amplify or increase the noise of the vehicle” was introduced at the last minute and is moving through the Illinois Legislature at breakneck speed. Under the bill, vehicles determined to have been modified by virtue of a “visual observation” will fail emissions inspection.
Time is of the Essence! We Urge You to Call or Fax Members of the Senate Environment and Energy Committee (List Attached) Immediately to Oppose H.B. 2221
H.B. 2221 ignores the fact that aftermarket exhaust systems are designed to make vehicles run more efficiently without increasing emissions.
H.B. 2221 does not supply emissions inspectors with a clear standard to enforce (e.g. decibel limit under a sound test procedure), allowing them to make subjective judgments based on “visual observations” on whether or not a modified exhaust system is in violation.
H.B. 2221 fails to recognize that aftermarket exhaust systems offer increased performance, which can make a vehicle safer by improving its ability to merge, pass, travel uphill, etc.
H.B. 2221 would make it impossible for hobbyists to replace factory exhaust systems with more durable, better performing options.
Call or fax (no e-mail addresses available) members of the Senate Environment and Energy Committee immediately to oppose H.B. 2221. This bill tramples on the rights of vehicle enthusiasts in Illinois.

I stronly urge anyone who lives in Illiniois to do this.
Send as many faxes/phone calls as you can.
Those damn lawmakers already banned ALL motorcycles from Lakeshore drive in Chicago Metro area. (for no other reason than the wealthy residents of lakeshore drive didn't like the noise SOME motorcycles made)

That is soooo f***in ridiculous. I hate that people feel the need to pass useless laws. Why would you immediately just try to BAN something right off the bat. I mean, come on, make a limitation if you think it's absolutely necessary, but don't BAN it.

Its all the fault of the ricers who enjoy flooring it past nice, residential homes making an ungodly racket. They just love trying to burn out the insides of their mufflers, no wait, most of them are straight-thru so they have no insides to burn out. rolleyes.gif
I can see where a normal person would despise the noise... the law is still a little overboard though.

see, I agree with Decible limits. Even most race tracks have them, but to just outright ban something because of a noisy few. Personally, even if the law gets passed, it will not survive the courts long due to the vagueness of the wording. You cannot force people to go back to the dealer when aftermarket parts works just as well or better. That is giving the dealers a virtual monopoly.

it's f***ing crazy!
I agree with emmision test and decibel test but ^^^ that is crap.
Mad has good point. I agree with that. Dealers will have monopoly.
And what about old cars? For some of them you won't find original part.
