Default Hyundai in SCC January issue

I'm at the newstand browsing after work and I pick up the new Sport Compact Car. Blah Blah Civic Si, Blah Blah Toyota Matrix, Blah Blah Hyundai Tiburon, Blah- what was that?!?

I flip back and SCC has an article on the Ojibwe Forests Pro Rally, from my state even! And Hyundai gets some ink.

The article starts out:
After more than 10 miles of the 10.5 mile SS8, second stage of the second leg of the Ojibwe ProRally, the top three cars were less than a second apart. Mark Lovell's Subaru finished the stage just 0.6 seconds ahead of Seamus Burke's Mitsubishi who finished only 0.6 seconds faster than the Hyundai of Paul Choiniere. Unbelievable.

There is also a short article by Dave Coleman who raced and won the Production Class in a Hyundai Tiburon. Too bad Hyundai had alot of probs this year, and those are mentioned (although not maliciously). I went to the rally last year and Libra Racing/Hyundai won 1-2-3, a manufacturer first in U.S. Rally history. 2001 was the first year Hyundai didn't win that rally since the Tiburon has been in production. Here are some pics from the 2000 rally:

Whoa...are those pictures a little mixed, or does their Tib have a second-gen front end and a first-gen rear?

Good stuff. Damn I want to rally.

SCC has done a great job this year covering the SCCA-Pro Rally season. Their driver has twice been behind the wheel of the production class (stock) tiburon, and twice brought it home to first place!
They also have decent coverage of the Full Pro Class and great photos!

Now if only they would put a STREET tibby in the PAGES of SCC...*pout*

Production class is a "theoritcally" stock motor.

The Full on Rally tib is a fully worked over turbocharged motor.

The production class Tib is basically stock. It stands out with a muchn stiffer and upgraded suspension and a few select weight removal mods. Other than that there is minor or no engine work. It just shows how good these babys are.
