How do you protect yourself from identity theft?

To me, it seems like if someone really wants your credit card info or social security number, they'll get it. It doesnt seem like theres a real 100% true way to avoid it. Or maybe I'm wrong and there really is, like never having a credit card, and locking your social security card away in a safe.

You are essentially correct. Take basic precautions with your important numbers and personally identifiable data and avoid phishing scams and hope for the best, unless you want to pay lifelock to help pay for your mess to be unscrambled when reasonable security efforts fail.
