That's a Desert Eagle converted to a carbine...and since it has a stock it's not a handgun.
The DE is inherently a good design, and VERY accurate for a handgun (assuming you can shoot it well). Taking those attributes and migrating them to a carbine is a good idea. That's basically what Hi Point did with their terrible handguns when they made the 995 carbine, and even their crappy action makes a pretty good carbine.
Using either 44mag or 50AE this weapon could be a nice precise short range marksman's weapon for certain situations where a pistol cartridge would be superior to a rifle cartridge which would be more likely to overpenetrate a target. With the proper loading a 50AE can be made to fire a HEAVY bullet at subsonic speeds so it could also be effectively silenced while still retaining it's deadliness. You can't do that with a 308 or a 223 rifle.

Sounds like a whole lot of hair splitting. I'd rather have a nice rifle and a nice handgun than something that's neither/both.

So you don't see the benefit of a silenced but still deadly sniper weapon? You can't silence a supersonic rifle.
If you're close enough to use a handgun and close enough to need a silencer, I don't see the need for a scope that large, a stock and a bi-pod. If I'm far enough to need a rifle, a scope and a bi-pod, I'm only concerned about muzzle flash, not sound. The target's done long before they hear the sound.
