Recently I put in some 10 000K HID's into my tibby, only to find that the one headlight (driver side) does not like coming on all the time. And recently, it won't come on at all. But then, the next day it will work fine. WTF?!?

Anyone having these issues as well?

Ive never had this issue, did you check your grounds? how about your connections?

majik 11-02-2009 08:42 PM

I'd check the connections. Swap the ballast from one side to the other, see if it causes the same problem. Might be something in the ballast.

I'll try that, I'll post up results. Won't be until the weekend, only time I can work on the tib with daylight.

The spade connectors can come lose trying to put everything back together inside the headlight unit as well. I had that happen to me. something else you could check.

nos4atu,

Get in contact with my brother in Calgary. He is taking care of our business there in Alberta. I will PM you his number if you like. Where did you get your kit anyway?

nos4atu 11-04-2009 08:20 PM

Jay, picked up the kit from a Chinese company on Ebay, they have offered to replace the ballast at their cost if that is the problem. But, thanks, if you want to pm, you can, don't know when I'd be able to get down to Calgary though but I appreciate it!

I think I've figured it out.

Something is weak in the initial charge (probably the battery), and I don't think the HID's are getting the full voltage required for activation. I've found that through revving up the engine a little just after startup (not long, just 2-3 seconds) and the lights work fine. So I've got a voltage stabilizer coming for that, not to mention that the belts need to get tightened up AGAIN. (Second time in what, 2 months.) We'll see if that does the trick.

if you have to tighten your belts that often you might want to get new ones or tighten everything so the tensioner doesn't creep.

get a digital voltmeter to monitor your battery from inside the car. It's the best thing I ever did.
