My new head unit plays MP3. So I want to put all my albums on a couple of dvds to cut down the 50 or so cds I have to carry in the car.
Thing is I made a dvd with mp3s dumped on it the other day and none of them worked. it just sat reading the disc for an eternity.
Does it have to be folder structured? does anyone have experience of this?
help is appreciated smile.gif
TIA !

hey Pandy, from what I know, DVD format is a completely re-written format than any other format. i'm not familiar with today's new cd players, but from what i know a DVD laser reads pictures and puts them together and is formatted to. i don't think you can just burn MP3/Mpeg files onto DVD's and then have 50 songs play in the car stereo.
Get an ipod and a Mac to go with it. And an ipod radio tuner off ebay. You can tune your radio to a station and have the ipod play music on that station with super clear sound.

you must have a dvd player to play the files on a dvd-r.
you can just add mp3s to a regular cd-r and it should work fine. you will still be able to fit a ton of songs on it.

You can get around five albums onto a data cd. Did your h/u come with any software? It's not unusual to get a programme to quicktrack you. Put the mp3s for an album into a folder with the album name to help you find it on the move.....burn all your folders onto the cd. ( It would be cool if mp3 meant you could use DVD format...I wish)

I tried to add them onto a data dvd and did, 4.3gb of them but the head unit wouldnt read it.
I have found a piece of software that apparently makes audio dvds with menus and stuff, so im trying it out now.
Ill let you all know how it goes, apparently you can play these in any dvd player whatsoever.

i think what Pandy is inferring is that he wants to play a ton of music from his DVD head unit. that would depend on if the DVD head unit has the capabilities of doing that. i'm sure there's some way you would be able to have the head unit encode to read music however i have to reinstate that any audio format is nothiing relative to DVD format so it would be nearly impossible and non-existant.

He just installed a monitor. So, the headunit should read CDR and DVDR+/-
Like everyone said. If you can burn a DVDR then you can burn a CDR in data format. I can burn 130 songs of variable size onto a CDR.
