Default Goodbye Heel-Toe... US wants to mandate brake override

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/03/business...ref=global-home

If this goes through, driving is gonna get real boring. Touch the brake, and the computer overrides the gas.

QUOTE
The override system is meant to deactivate the accelerator when the brake pedal is pressed. That will let the driver stop safely even if the car’s throttle sticks open. Often called a “smart pedal,” the feature is already found on many automobiles sold worldwide, including models from BMW, Chrysler, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan and Volkswagen.

No worries... ECU re-flash will fix it.

I'm more tired of the government mandating stuff it doesn't have to pay for, from education requirements to fuel efficiency standards.

Why not just mandate better brakes? your brakes should always be able to overwhelm the engine's power.
