Whatever the current model of the Viper is, I'd recommend it. Mine is like a 791 or something, but is several years old. Great systems, good remotes, decent prices. Probably run from 300 to 500 installed. I got a glass break sensor with mine and it ran about $500.

I was actually thinking about new alarms as well. My new tib has one, but its just your standard annoying one. I live in an apartment building and park in the basement, so if it goes off I'll have no clue. Are there any alarms that can notify you remotely that your car's being broken into? Like via a key fob remote or something?

i advise to stay away from any current models of viper (DEI) or polarstart. they are very problematic now. the older stuff was good. i would recomend compustar. they are relatively flawless units. when it comes to your proximity sensor that is an external piece you can add on to any alarm. the proximity sensor is made by DEI and it is a good unit. its model number is DEI 508D.

heres the one i am looking into right now.

Viper 5002 the MSRP is high, but it retails for like 200$

it has the lil LCD remote 2-way responder..

i just wanna make sure it has a proximity sensor, cuz if my glass is just broken and it tells me, not gonna help me much. i wanna make sure the stupid kids piss their pants before even touching the car, haha..

I just bought this one. but I still haven't had the time to install it.

for the price, I think it's worth the try.

tibbymat, thanks for the heads up about the proximity sensor, thats what im most concerned about.

cuz if someone jacks up my car, my alarm lets me know, then runs away, im still gonna have to fix it. but if i have a field disturbance sensor/proximity sensor, ill have less to worry about.

ill look into compustar also.

looks like they have a ton of models. would the viper proximity sensor work with compustar?

heres one i found compustar

Audio Express. I'd advise NOT getting it done there though, quality of the install and help later on if something goes wrong is VERY poor.

Ask over on RSW for local stuff.

I wasn't aware that Viper had fallen from grace, but I can believe it. They come and go like stereo quality.
