Well, I'm headed to New York City on the 4th of December just to see what it's all about and to spend some time with my g/f and another couple we're friends with.

We're flyin' Jet blue to JFK and are having some trouble getting to our Hotel in NJ. We think we might have that figured out but if anyone has got suggestions I'd love to hear them. We've got Monday squared away for things to do, we're gonna hang around the city then catch the Rangers play the Minnesota Wild. Sunday and Tuesday are pretty much open. We're gonna do the whole skating at Rockafeller (sp??), Empire state building, Times Square, and all those little things, but I wanted to get input from people who have been there before. Just to see if there is a must see thing.

So I ask.

1. If anyone in the area is knowledgable about the area, and has insider info, gimme a shout.
2. If anyone in the area is available the 4th - 7th gimme a shout.
3. If anyone in the area has something we HAVE TO DO while in New York (When in Rome), gimme a shout.

Thanks guys/girls.

Hey man. I live in South/Central Jersey... and SwiftTiburon lives up in North/Central Jersey. She's real close to NYC, so maybe she could give you some tips.

As for my recommendations, take a walk down Broadway. Not too sure if you're into that area, but it's awesome! Lots of cool little shops and you get to see where all of the legendary musicals are. Keep walking (about 20 blocks... it only took me about a half hour to walk it), and you're in Times Square. Haha, that Toys R Us is pretty cool there, so is the Virgin Megastore.

The New York Aquarium is excellent too! They have Beluga whales, which is something no other aquarium in the US has. They are amazing animals, for sure. Lots of exhibits there to check out. In fact, the Camden Aquarium in NJ just added a new shark exhibit, as well as freakin' Hippo's!

I don't know if you're into Kevin Smith films, but in Jersey (in Red Bank, actually), there is Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash. It's a comic book store and kind of props/merch store for all of Smith's stuff. When he first opened that place up, he actually used to work behind the counter, lol.

There's also Coney Island in NY. That's a cute, historical place to check out.

If you guys are bored, you can always drive about an hour and a half over to Philadelphia, where I could tell you alot more about (I go there all the time).

All the way at the tip of NJ is Cape May, which is a very nice place. Lots of little shops and historical things to check out. Plus the beaches are beautiful.

Where is your hotel in NJ located? I can maybe help you out. smile.gif

Oh, and if I have a day off from the 4th to 7th, I can let you know. Not sure if you'd want to hang with me, but hey, it's something to do, lol.

hold your nose while in jersey

watch out for kamikazee taxi drivers

um

central park is beautiful, if you have a nice day take a walk around

if you like strip clubs and have some cash hit up scores

avoid the bronx

china town is a great place to get cool sh!t for cheap

I dunno Im not a big fan of NYC.

Lemme ask, why are you staying in Jersey? Why not stay in Queens near the airport? Well depending on where your hotel is you can take the airtran to Jamaica where you can take a train to Penn Station and then catch the PATH to Jersey. Or just get a taxi.

Dude I'll be free that Sunday, if you wanna meet up you can see my tib freshly painted. I might be in Brooklyn anyway cause my friend lives there.

I live in Jersey and I can assure you that the only place that you have to hold your nose in is near the garbage piles near the passaic river. fing02.gif

Well for things to do in nyc, Im not too familiar. I think you've got all the places covered while your in NYC though and plus I see Toxic gave you a few extra places there and in nj. If it was the summer I'd tell you to check out some of the beaches over here but in the winter time thats not smart. tongue.gif If you guys would want to go shopping then theres a huge outlet mall in Elizabeth, NJ. I have a lot of places but they are really more appropriate for the spring or summer.

While it is a three hour hike (depending on traffic) if you feel like coming down to the Casino's in Atlantic City. You would be practically in my back yard.

Definitely go to broadway. Also go to the village and find the restaurant Jekyll and Hyde... awesome atmesphere, I think it's somewhere on Christopher street. I used to live in Staten Island (the dump... but I lived on the good side) but didn't go into the city a whole lot. The Staten Island Ferry is free and gives you a good view of the city and the statue of liberty. You can also hit up the toy store FAO shwartz that Tom hanks was at in the movie "BIG" (the big keyboard that they danced on) if your into that kinda thing. Have fun and be safe

Oh also the Jersey shore is pretty nice. Even if it is cold now =P

Sorry guys I forgot enitrely about this thread. I apologize.

Toxic - Cool, I'll mention that. Beluga's are beautiful, I've seen wild ones when I lived on Baffin Island, pretty crazy. I forgot about Coney Island, we'll have to hit that up for sure. Prolly won't be going to Philly though, we're flying in, and don't want to drive anywhere. Definitely doing Broadway.

Tibbychick - I've heard of scores, we might be going, $50 cover is a little rich for my blood, but, when in Rome right? LOL We're definitely hitting up Chinatown and that. We're staying in Jersey because I can get my staff discount there. $49 vs $489 for downtown dunno.gif I think I'll take my chances in Jersey. LOL I noticed your car in the COTM thread. Got my Vote! wink.gif wink.gif :nudge: :nudge: Maybe, you still got my cell? I'll give you a shout when we're down there.

SwiftTiburon - Well then I'll just have to make a trip out to see you guys in the summer too then. LOL Shopping?? Shopping?? Don't mention the word, the g\f's got that covered, eyeroll.gif

Mad-Machine - I'll be sure to stop by when I do my victory lap next fall. I got some plans that I may need your help on. laugh.gif

kcvortex - Thanks man, yeah we're definitely hitting up the ferry. We're gonna be tourists, but yet we don't need to go right up to the statue ya know. Seeing it will be cool though. Jekyll and Hyde eh? What's that all about? Just a restaurant? I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks guys, we definitely have all the "touristy" things taken care of. I was looking for those little places that people have noticed in being there that they thought was cool and wanted to share.

I appreciate your help, even if I forgot about the friggin' thing. Nobody posted for the first day so I thought it was a wash. 02.gif

it's a great little theme restuarant..... good luck finding the bathrooms though... they hid them behind secret doors (actually not that hard to find when it's someone busy because people are coming in and out of them but still nifty) great food too. Anyway enjoy your trip... it's a great place to be.

Hey man I live in NYC. Def. a great place to come but a few things.

# 1. Bring money because you're going to spend a lot of it.
# 2. Don't go to those tourist places to eat like planet hollywood/hard rock cafe unless you want a $50 burger that's no better than something from a local diner.
# 3. Best steak in the city is at Peter Luger's in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Make your reservation now and you MIGHT be able to eat there. If not go to Tavern on the Green, it's in Central Park, is very beautiful and a dinner should run you about $150.
# 4. Arguably the best pizza is at Grimaldi's (also known as Patsy's) in downton Brooklyn under the Brooklyn Bridge.
# 5. Don't stay at a NJ hotel, cancel the reservation...there's lot of nice places to stay for reasonable cash in the other boroughs of NYC like Queens or Brooklyn which are much closer to where you want to be.
# 6. Stay out of Staten Island, there's no reason to visit, same goes for Queens and the Bronx (unless you go to the Bronx Zoo).
# 7. Go to a museum, any of them, they are all wonderful and worth your time.
# 8. Take the subway everywhere, quicker than a cab/bus and can take you anywhere you need to go.
# 9. Regardless of what people tell you, crime isn't really an issue, just don't be stupid. laugh.gif
# 10. If you find yourself saying, I'm bored and have no idea what to do, go to the Village and walk around, you'll enjoy it.

Send me an email if you need more info or suggestions on what to do, I've lived in the city my whole life and can help ya out. fing02.gif
