Default Futons

Thinking about adding a futon to my spare bedroom. I like the idea that they take up little room and can be converted to a bed in case someone needs to crash at my place. However, I have heard they can be terribly uncomfortable. Anyone ever slept on one, and how bad was it? Manageable or total insomnia?

If you get a quality pad for the futon, it'll be fine. They ones they come with are generally crappy.

I had the option when I bought my futon of getting a 6" or 8" thick mattress. The guy said get the 8" if you expect people to sleep on it, we did, even though I mainly use it as a cheap couch in my basement. I've slept on it a few times, by accident and on purpose and it wasn't horrible for the night. I don't think I would want to spend more than 1 night on it though. hope that helps

I slept on a futon for a few weeks, was an Ikea one, wasn't bad at all.

If worried, get a feather comforter and put it under the fitted sheet when it's pulled out, instant feather bed!
