Is it proper to send a thank you email after interviewing some where? I met with a company that scouted me out and had me come in for an interview this morning. Wondering if I should send them a thank you email for meeting with me or if that will seem like I'm desperate or trying too hard. What says the HR people of HA?
I would say it depends on the position, but for the office positions I interview for I would suggest yes. It wouldn't have any bearing on a decision for me, but some people really respect that you took the time to follow up. I definitely wouldn't count it against you. Always ask for a business card and always follow up with an e-mail. If sending to multiple people, especially within a department, DO NOT send them all the same e-mail with only the names changed - they'll know. Make it personable and sincere, tell them you appreciated the opportunity to meet with them and gained valuable information about the company... and perhaps express your hope to speak with them again soon. Make sure it's as professional as it can be.
DO NOT ask for a response, DO NOT ask when they will be making a decision. Many corporate HR policies won't allow them to respond to you, and if they want to they will.
If you're going to do it, I'd do it sooner rather than later. The fact that they sought you out for an interview is already a big plus. I would recommend sending an e-mail now.
