This is a great discovery but as usual things have been a bit blown out of proportion. It's most likely not at all Earth-like unless your only criterion for being Earth-like is that it's rocky. It orbits extremely close to its star with an 11 day year, and is therefore almost certainly tidally locked so one side always faces the star. Proxima Centauri is a flare star, meaning it regularly blasts the planet with intense radiation and its luminosity fluctuates wildly.
It's likely that a probe will be sent to and arrive at Proxima Centauri withing the lifetimes of our children. It's unlikely that the planet will be any more suitable for life than Mercury.

We find all these planets in our galaxy and even in other galaxies but still have no idea what planets have intelligent life. Or maybe we do and they're just not letting it out to the public
