Im talking about an Alpha unit. I cannot find the damn egr valve, I need to clean it because it's probably stuck - failing NOx on etest. The dealer refuses to answer me with out a VIN, the techs don't know, junkyards don't know, HSW shows nothing... could it be that these cars simply do NOT HAVE an EGR?

I'm at the end of my rope and incredibly frustrated. Can anyone tell me where the EGR is?

Yeah I know... he's being an ass lately. I called to order a timing belt for my 1987 Stellar 2.0 (THE ONLY YEAR IT HAD THAT MOTOR) and he asked me for a VIN. I leave my paper work in the car which was 50 miles away at the time, he wouldn't help me until I asked for the manager.

I'll call Attrell, see if Aarik is working.

EDIT: Do betas have EGR's?

The parts manager guy at my dealersihp is the same... I wanted a thermostat housing gasket; he wanted the VIN number. "Oh there are 4 different versions of that motor for that motor I don't want to order the wrong one"... So I just printed off the '00-'01 parts list and highlighted the part number (there is only 1). For the headgasket he wanted the same thing, but I didn't feel like dealing with his b****y bullshit so I caved and gave him the VIN# on my car (even though it's a different engine). I think they are programmed to be pains in the ass for people who know what they're talking about.

EGR is jsut to raise the temperature of the air coming into the engine correct? The betas have a heated throttle body assembly. I don't know much about alphas so i don't know if they do or not.

EGR is to recirculate the exhaust gas to reburn it and lower emissions. Betas do not have anything that does this. Alphas do not either as far as I remember with my x3. Emissions for us is low enough (when running right) where we do not need use of EGR to lower them.
