Sandeep Singh, Massachusetts Man, Wins $30.5 Million Mega Millions Prize After Getting Dumped

A young man from Massachusetts who was recently dumped by his girlfriend snagged a $30.5 million Mega Millions prize this week.

According to the Associated Press, Sandeep Singh claimed his lottery prize on Wednesday, opting to take home a one-time lump sum payment of about $23 million (or $16 million after taxes).

The 22-year-old, who goes by the nickname 'Sunny,' says he hopes the woman who broke his heart won't come calling now that he's a millionaire.

“She broke up with me, but right now, I’m not really worried about it,” he said, during a press conference on Wednesday. “I was heartbroken at first, but now I’m getting over it.”

Singh, who currently juggles two jobs to help his family "make ends meet," says he had bought four Mega Millions tickets after he had won $4 on a scratch-off Lotto card. The young man, from Hyannis, Mass., added that his sister had picked out the winning ticket.

“I was in my sister’s room on the computer reading the numbers,” he said at the press conference. “I didn’t know what to do. I dropped the ticket.”

Singh said it "took a while for reality to sink in."

“I always told them one day I’ll eventually win and they never believed me but it happened,” he told the Boston Globe. Singh added that he has been playing Mega Millions and Powerball for about a year.

The young man says he's planning to share his winnings with his family and to donate some to charity.

“Just pay my mom’s house off, that’s the main thing,” he said.

Singh says he also hopes to use some of the money to get a bachelor’s degree in business.

The winning numbers, 13-37-40-46-52 were announced on Tuesday. According to Cape Cod Today, a winner in Fresno, Calif., and Singh are sharing the $61 million prize.
