Default Do you make new year resolutions?

A lot of people seem to make them but almost everyone I know doesnt stick to them. So is it stupid to even make them and fool yourself into thinking you're going to do better after January 1st? Discuss.

Made a new years resolution last year to loose 25 lbs and hit the mark about a month ago! Yep, I stick with them, but its not easy. Definitely worth it though and a cool thing to brag about when threads like this pop up! : )

I make an annual bucket list of things to do within the year. I'm still trying to decide what to do in 2014.

2013 was scuba diving in a new location (ended up being Catalina Island) and skydiving. I had a goal to get a certification at work and ended up getting 2.

2014 may be scuba diving in the Atlantic Ocean and hang gliding, and maybe getting one more certification at work. I am also promising my wife either two out-of-state vacations (aside from the Tail of the Dragon) or one out of country trip (Belize or Bonaire). At least one will include Scuba Diving - hoping for Miami or the Keys since I've never been.

My resolution last year was to quit smoking cigerattes after a solid 10 years of close to a pack a day. Haven't touched one since January 1st. Did it cold turkey too, hardest thing I've ever done

This year I'm going to try and get in better shape and change my eating habits

One vacation to Portland/Salem is a must.

Unfortunately, two coworkers have grabbed the Oregon trip this year. Apparently they're using it as an opportunity to orchestrate a snowboarding trip the weekends before/after.

However.... my 2014 bucket list has grown, my parents gave me a Christmas present today for flying lessons. So.. yeah, flying the damn plane seems to top the 2013 highlight of jumping out of one. Maybe I'll eventually fly myself to Portland

Flight lessons would be awesome. I eventually want to have an ultralight seaplane.

Hell yes! Now this I can get behind. Flying is fun, so much more than jumping out of the plane. Got very lucky opportunities to fly many years ago. I'd love to do it again and even own, but it's not in the cards right now. Have a blast!

I made a resolution last year to loose weight. Did an awesome job got down to 155 then got put on 3rd shift and gained it all back plus some.

This year:

1: Find a full time VFX, Motion Graphics or animation job

2: Get back to 155

3: Finally build the deck for the house

4: Finish off the wife's debts and the cars. (By 2015 the only debt we should have are the house and my student loans.)

I don't make them. It's nonsense to wait til a particular date to start doing something. Lifes short. Why put off something that can be done now? Besides, setting time limits to certain things can lead to disappointment.
