Do you carve pumpkins?
My neighbor every year always gets pumpkins for his porch but he never carves them. What's the use of getting them then? 
I think the whole point of getting them is the fun in carving cool designs or faces in them.

One can still be festive without the need to dissect a perfectly good vegetation.
That said I carve them because it's fun
Plus it's more fun for the kids in the neighborhood. Also baked seeds
