Should have got a 64 bit processor. That's why it was so cheap. The release of windows vista is around the corner and you're going to be left behind.

the system i'm using right now is a dell. has the 3.2ghz dual core processor and 4 gigs of ram, and it slow as sh1t. will the dual make it that much faster? and also can i use pc 3200 ram with this setup?

Video editing or coversion is best done with an Intel Based Processor. Your current system is going to be faster than the one your getting, cause, well, its a 3.2Ghz. Even though the other one is Dual Processor, you should had just got a AMD 64 or a newer Intel. The 64s are pretty good at video editing, but if you want the best for vid editing either get the P4 Extreme edition, or a Mac. O.o. Yeah, I know I said it. But their RISC based processor is better at video editing.
Video editing:
Intel Extreme AMD FX > Intel D AMD 64X2 (Dual Core!) > AMD 64 > Intel P4 HT > Intel P4 > AMD XP
Video editing:
Intel Extreme AMD FX > Intel D AMD 64X2 (Dual Core!) > AMD 64 > Intel P4 HT > Intel P4 > AMD XP

^^^ you said it and you're wrong.
they stopped making processors because they can't keep up. They havn't been better at video editing for about 3 years now.

okay. macs are the standard for animation in the u.s. outside the u.s. intel rules. now my 3.2 ghz is not necessarly going to be fast than the duals. you have to remember the way these work. amd is different from intel in that their dual processors share the load equally. intel's cpu's are stacked, one takes the overload for the other. now did i buy an old slow computer, yes, but from what i have read about it it should do what i want. i just tought i may have overpaid. i am planning on building the killer server later this year. dual opterons, lots of ram and multipule displays. just don't have the money right now and needed a decent coomputer for fillin purposes. and i now i should have gotten the 64 bit.
