Default delayed hello + purchase advice

well I have been reading all of your posts for just under a year now, first at teamSR before they made it a closed board and here as well. I fell in love with the tiburon on accident while checkin out the veilside site looking for rx-7 kits. since then I have been reading every thing I could find about the tibby and due to a recent job change I will actually be able to purchase one here in about 3 months. Now my main concern is... which one? not really into the 2003 but dont know if I should go first gen or second and what if any are the major differences between the 2000 and 2001 second gen tibby's. any oppinions would be greatly appreciated.. and a much delayed thankyou for all the information u have all already given me over the last year. Heh I am just glad my dream car costs less than $20k (before mods)

hmm I read the 1997-2000 2.0 was beta I and 2001-2003 was a beta II any serious difference? if not perhaps I should save the dough and get a 2000 instead of the 2001 and spend the extra $1000 I save on some initial tunning...

I'm pretty sure 2001 is still the beta 1.

ALL 1st and 2nd Gen Tibs (97-01) are BETA 1's!
and 2.0L except for some 97's which were 1.8L and I believe in Europe and other places overseas they had 1.6L Betas

But I'd get a 2001 over a 2000. They've pretty much got most of the bugs out.
ANd the shifting is WAY smoother,... trust me, take a 2001 for a spin and then take a 2000, you'll notice it. Oh yeah I'm talking about a 5spd, not an auto
The only thing with the 2001s (in Canada anyway) is that there are 2 cats (Cali Emmissions) and the 2000s have only the 1 Cat from the Exhaust manifold down.

yeah I wouldnt get an automatic tibby, I intend to tune this thing for performance, and u just don't get the same control from an automatic. heh actually just to make sure I didnt mess up the tranny on my tiburon when I got it, I bought a **** $500 car (manual) to learn how to drive stick on first smile.gif anyhow I was able to dig up that link where I read which years the betas where made, dont know how reliable the infor is though, perhaps I will talk with my local dealership. here is that link.

Welcome to the fold my mang.

2001 or nothing. The first gen can look hot with the right kit, but the 2001 looks soooo hot stock. The 00 and 01 are almost identical though, so it doesn't matter much.

yeah been leaning towards 2nd gen, only was considering the 1st gen to save cash but I must admit it seems worth the extra cash for the bolder body styling of the second gen. pretty sure I want the 2001 now aswell, more options available then there was in 2000. I think the dealership guy is trying to rob me though been quoting me $14,000+(US) for the 2001, and I have seen it on autotrader for as low as $9k I would settle for $12k guess I will just have to haggle with him a bit. as long as I can get a manual with a sunroof/moonroof and leather I am good to go wink btw a little off topic but is it true if I **** up my motor during trial and error tuning I can replace it for as little as $300 ??? if so thats awsome.
