Government TAKING my kids for ANY reason is tyranny. I thought we lived in the land of the free and the home of the brave? Well our politicians are becoming cowards, and these same politicians are slowly step by step removing our freedoms. So much for America.
When I eventually have kids, I plan on spanking them as discipline. I have a thousand and one reasons for it, not the least of which is how badly that pringles example above worked. How very soon the government will be in my home or at least have a camera in there telling ME what I CAN or CAN NOT do with my own kids. The arm of the goverment is way too long, and growing at a breakneck pace.
Since when did the government become the experts at raising kids? If they raise kids like they plan their budget, we're doomed before they even start!
Yes it's sad to see ginormous kids today. What's worse is to see the Government dictating every single rule, every calorie, every step, every change, ever single thing in your life. I'd take fat kids any day thank you.

So if you're a "witch" and your religion says you should be able to do a little bloodletting every once in a blue moon, the government should let you cut your children?

Stocker,
There's where it gets sticky. There is a balance between the two - no regulation whatsoever (getting away with murder), and too much regulation (can't even fart without a stack of paperwork, 10 signatures, a full EPA emissions review, and 3 years wait to get it all approved). I don't think in this world we will ever get that balance, but it's becoming clear we're going too far to the one side. Where do they stop?

Apparently they don't stop if you are genuinely setting your child on the fast track to heart disease and diabetes, then early death, just because you are ignorant, lazy, stupid, or a combination of those.
I am offended.

I think this country needs something in the middle of a lot of issues, but we are becoming more polarized every day it seems.
