Default Couple of Ebay Items to think twice about

Looking at Ebay today I saw these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2402540684 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2402540973

97-03? ok, right. But the ad also says buyer must email Make Model Year, etc. after the auction. But I want to know what the springs actually are, since they use a stock photo. So I sent an email to the company and asked for info
1) Are they linear or progressive rate?
2) What are the rates?

I got back an email that read:
"VISUAL INSPECTION , FRONT COIL IS LINEAR,
REAR IS PROGRESSIVE , RATES ARE ABOUT 20%
HIGHER THAN STOCK TIBURON COILS.
MFG. WILL NOT GIVE OUT PROPREITARY
SPRING RATES INFORMATION."

So, I would be buying what appear to be mismatched and are approximately 20% stiffer than stock springs? Hmm, what are the stock spring rates again? Why would the spring rates be "proprietary" anyway, it seems to me giving specifics would be a selling point.

Ok, I'm done, just wanted to share.

Then I'd email back "NO SPRING RATE INFORMATION? THEN MFG. WILL NOT MAKE THIS SALE"

So I call Sprint Suspension products. They just started making Tiburon springs and the only thing the guy on the phone could tell me is
1) 1.75" drop
2) 25-33% stiffer than stock.

I told him thanks anyway. Oh yeah, these spring retail for about 150/set. My cycnical side says that they don't know what the rates are and are taking a best guess based on the springs they make for other cars. (saves R&D money?) It also says there are a lot of people out there that won't care and will buy these springs and then be unhappy with them.

Maybe I should not be so cynical?

People put crap up on EBAY all the time and crappy people put stuff up for sale too.

Maybe there should be an EBAY FRAUD forum just so people can post stupid stuff they find. My recent favorite is some guy here in Okinawa trying to pass off a Skyline GTS steering wheel as a genuine GTR wheel. rolleyes.gif
