Im guessing most people have heard of this technology before but in case you havent heres the basic idea:

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pnogS2XW1D0"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pnogS2XW1D0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

I thought it would be interesting to talk about potential applications for this. So far the best idea Ive come up with is to put it on ice cube trays to mess with someone. And maybe someone can answer this for me: would it benefit a ship to coat the hull with this?

This thread is just meant to be a fun thought excercise.

The ice cube tray idea is funny. That's similar to some stuff I used to sell at Lids (hat store) to waterproof the hats. We used to be able to dump a whole cup of water and watch it run right off. Worked great for shoes, etc.

The ice cube tray would just make ice cubes that never touch the tray. It would actually be a really interesting experiment to see if the cubes contact upon changing to ice, or if the coatings are H2O phobic regardless of phase.

I really want this on my windshield, and for that matter on the whole car would be nice.
