I think it's absolutely ridiculous that he can be held that long and/or fined that much for posting some words without actually making an effort to follow through on them, but still... Obviously need to be careful with the hate rhetoric these days, apparently. And the first amendment doesn't protect all forms of speech, apparently? dunno.gif

A 43-year-old northeast Dallas man has pleaded guilty to posting an online message threatening to kill President Barack Obama.
Brian Dean Miller faces up to five years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
He will be sentenced later this year. He is in federal custody in Seagoville.
Miller professed to be upset at Obama because of federal legislation to overhaul the health-care system.
He pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul Stickney a day after his trial was supposed to start.
In a message posted on Craigslist on Mach 21, the night Congress passed the health-care bill, Miller wrote:
"People, the time has come for revolution."
He added: "It is time for Obama to die. I am dedicating my life to the death of Obama and every employee of the federal government. As I promised in a previous post, if the health care reform bill passed I would become a terrorist. Today I become a terrorist."
An Arlington resident alerted the Secret Service to the post. They tracked it to the house where Miller lived with his mother, near Lovers Lane and Skillman Street.
Miller eventually admitted writing the threatening message.

It's post like this that make ME want to "become a terrorist.."
LOL
While I agree it does seem excessive to be put in prison for 5 years just for saying you hate the government or want to kill the president out of anger (without ever going through with it)....it should just be common sense to not post stuff like that, especially on Craigslist. Im sure theres people every day who vocally announce their displeasure for Uncle Sam. laugh.gif

It's friggin' common sense. You don't threaten to kill anyone especially THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. If you mess with anything that is related to government, you will get a huge fine and/or jail time.

Wow voodoo, do you subscribe to conservative email lists? I can only figure you're getting this stuff from some right-wing blogger who emails you updates. Only a right-wing nut job would think it's a violation of their First Amendment rights to threaten to kill the president and tell the world you're now a terrorist on a public internet site.
