Car did not like brakes locking up
Ok, this was really weird. Its snowing here and I was on a back road and decided to see how straight the car stays when the tires lock up (I decided to test this before a real situation happened where I would need to lock em up). Well, the outcome is that the car stays perfectly straight when all four are locked up But... My head lights dimmed way down (almost off), something clicked in my dash, Check Engine light (and another red indicator... mabe seatbelt? came on. I was too focused on the CEL to notice the other). It seemed like the car stalled. I released the brakes and everything went back to normal (lights back up to full power, cel went off and car stayed running). It scared the crap outta me (I envisioned the airbag deploying because I figured the car 'thought' it was in a crash).
Did anyone else ever have this or something similar happen? It makes me hesitant to hit my breaks hard! Its one of those WTF just happened moments lol.

I dont have ABS and I have yet to have an alt prob... I will keep that in mind though. I just find it weird that the car would flip out from breaking (and yes, I did have the cluch in....)
Well, if it werent for me fearing gettin hit in the face by an airbag again, I would. Hyundai airbags dont go off in accidents... but who says that they wont go off from locking up the breaks rolleyes.gif . I know that there is an impact sensor which is supposed to deploy the airbags, but that loud click (relay) in the dash scared the crap outta me.
Yeah... the ABS is electronically controlled, and it takes power. Assuming you have ABS, you probably wouldn't brake dead straight if you didn't. tongue.gif If you had the lights, the radio, etc. on you probably just sapped the system of too much power. Might mean your alternator is on the way out.
I recommend you attempt this one more time. Then you can see if you have a problem or not, maybe trying a complete stop on asphault instead?
If it happens again, I would definetly check alternator. There's a DIY on webtech on how to do this.
If it's faulty, replace or go to an alternator repair shop, they do good work and is about 1/3 of the cost for a new alternator. smile.gif

Heh, I didn't see that for some reason. Amazed it stayed straight, since without ABS the car usually swings the back-end out.
And please god, don't type "breaks" again... drives me nuts.
Dunno what it could be. Shouldn't matter though... I would still check electrical system out. I don't see how not pushing the clutch in or putting it in neutral is going to matter, isn't a tranny problem.
