Default Canada to Introduce Glow-in-the-Dark Quarter

http://moneyland.time.com/2012/04/10...-dark-quarter/

When Canada introduced polymer bills last year to replace their paper ones, we thought – cool! Then just a few weeks ago, the Canadian government announced it was doing away with pennies as a cost-cutting measure, and we thought – seems drastic, but ok! Now they’ve announced that a new quarter to be released next week will glow in the dark. Alright – Canada’s completely lost it. On April 16, Canada will introduce a quarter bearing an image of a Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai. Its remains were found in Alberta in 1974, the first new species of dinosaur to be discovered there.

Viewing the quarter during the daytime, it will just appear to be a regular ol’ dino on a coin. But in the dark, the dinosaur’s skeleton glows, allowing Canadians to wow little kids. The coin has a photo-luminescent technology that supposedly won’t wear off. It will be part of a series called Prehistoric Creatures, which will include three more dino coins. Each will sell for $29.95, so Canadians probably won’t be using these at their local laundromat. The Canadian government is hoping the coins will generate revenue and help reduce the deficit. With so much currency news coming out of our northern neighbor, we can’t wait until the next big announcement.

I might get one to keep as a collectible.

Stupid. Of all the things a government shouldn't be doing, this makes the list.

We have lots of jobs, our economy is doing great...... what else do we have to do!? Let's make some cool ass money! LOL! You're just jealous because American money is boring and all the bills look the same.

Canadian cash has always been awesome.

I'm more interested in the coating process...

Whole-car GITD paintjob?

Sorry Stocker, can't see it happening. It would have happened by now..... I've been listening to the media tell me that there will be a housing crash soon. I've been waiting 5+ years! Mortgage rates have held steady for the past year. Fortunately Canadians also have a lower personal debt load than the US. Banks were a little smarter in Canada a few years back and didn't hand out a mortgage to anyone with a job. Even if the recession hit Canada harder than it already has, the city I live in should be relatively safe, it's a government town.

Hooray for Canada!

Nevermind how it's done, just cover the car in canadian quarters. Hey, it's probably cheaper than a paintjob.

This is awesome and I might get one. And you americans are crazy. We barely even had a recession here and we are not going to be having one anytime soon. We are not as tied to your economy as you like to think. We are doing great up here. Where I live, wages are going up and unemployment is on a decline and there is no hint of there ever being a recession.

ha, next you will tell me China is not also about to crash. What cannot go on forever will not. The current crop of politicians around the world is incapable of dealing with the problems the smart way, and what's left is necessarily a crash.
