I just got offered a job at the University of New Mexico Hospital. i need to know a few things about ABQ, NM before i even contemplate accepting the job there.

1. Is there a nightlife?
2. How far is it from any body of water
3. Who do I know from here who lives there?
4. Are there any women there?
5. can i buy a big ass house for under $300k?
6. cost of living?

the job i got offered is really, really really decent...i should be able to afford a $300-400K house (it's gotta be big enough for both my parents), and also be able to finally afford that g35 i want...and the YZF R1 that i really really want.

i also want to know if there something (job wise) my father could probably do to keep from going crazy.

redz, i know ur over there. maybe you can answer some of my questions.

=D

btw, wassup guys? it's been awhile, hasn't it? tongue.gif

1. Is there a nightlife?
yes and no there isnt as much to do as a larger city at times you can get bored but all and all youll find somethin to do but comin from alaska i guarantee youll have a better time lmao.gif

2. How far is it from any body of water
depends on how large you want we have the rio grande here now if your talkin like goin on a jetski your lookin about 90 miles from abq(santa rosa lakes, elephant butte, bluewater lake are good places to go for recreation, for fishin lake conchas, murphy lake)

3. Who do I know from here who lives there?
i live in NM

4. Are there any women there?
there are lol now if your talkin hot women. we have a pretty nice ratio of hot to ugly lol

5. can i buy a big ass house for under $300k?
huge house expecially if you move out to the "country" like i did its about 30 miles from where i moved to to abq but i get to work pretty quickly in the morning almost the same as when i lived in the heights

6. cost of living?
pretty cheap actually cheaper than when i lived in chicago

now here are the bad parts (youd wanna know this no matter where you move)
if you plan on having a family NM ranks one of the lowest in places to raise a kid,
education is 47th in the country last i checked
we have a large amount of government pork
we rank 37th in crime rates per 100000 people

Pretty cheap compared to Chicago is like saying pretty cheap compared to living in a 5-star hotel... ANYWHERE is cheap compared to it. tongue.gif I've got a friend living in Chicago who's paying something like $1200/month for a 1 bedroom when I can get a 2 bedroom here in Grand Rapids for half that.

Just sayin. smile.gif

Also, wouldn't pork be a plus? Everyone loves bacon! (I know, I know, that's not the kind of pork you meant.)

Dude, congrats, I'd take it in a second.

Yes. Pretty good too. We have one of the only 2 OPM nightclubs in the US. There is a really nice bar/club scene in the downtown area, and plenty of decent strip clubs. What other kind of night life info are you looking for?

2. How far is it from any body of water

Depends on what you want man. Cochiti Lake is about a 45 minute drive, the Rio Grande runs right through the center of the city, Elephant Butte is about a 2.5 to 3 hour drive and is frigging HUGE. There are a ton of lakes up in the northern section of the state, and with a 75MPH speed limit, you get around quick.

3. Who do I know from here who lives there?

Me, ABQ Elantra, Faith, and there are some other locals.

QUOTE
4. Are there any women there?

HELL YES! You have no clue mang. LOL

Come on IM and I can show you homes for that price. You'll shit yourself. I'm serious.

QUOTE
6. cost of living?

Pretty damned cheap actually. ABQ is rated the smartest place to live in Kiplingers guide this year, ranked #5 or 6 in the US for Family Relocation, it's just a nice place all around as long as you stay out of the S. Valley.

Let me know what he's into, I can help out.

Good to see you again.

BTW, a few things.

We have a VA Med Center, and it's rated the best in the US system. School is cheap at the Community College and there are a lot of new companies building here.

Hit me up via IM tonight or tomorrow anytime and I'll give you all the links or info you could ever need.

Shit, how did I forget? There are also the casino's here.

Do a google for...

Sandia Casino and Resort.

Isleta Casino

Route 66 Casino

Hollywood Casino

Star Casino

If you are an outdoorsman, this is also a great place to live. You can hunt almost anything, and you have great weather year round.

find a job in Phoenix bro, night life = teh shit! Me = 1 hour away. VEGAS = 4 hours away

Large body of water = Roosevelt Lake to the NW (you have to drive a FUN ASS road to get there, HWY 88 through Apache Junction, AKA Tortilla Flats.... mmmm, mmmm).

and no one can deny, ASU has the finest ass on the planet...
(and if you like the "big city" whole growth sorta thing, we are #1 in the nation...) It's expected by 2015 that Phoenix and tucson will become one GIANT megapolitan city, currently there is only 20 miles of I-10 seperating the two cities and the growth continues to creep closer to each other...

hm...ABQ sounds nice i guess.
i'm still negotiating a contract and i still need to do an interview before i really make my mind up.
I used to drive through NM and AZ on my way to cali all the time when i was stationed in texas. to me, i guess all i ever really saw was the desert.

i'll try to im u tonight redz

the reason i'm looking for a body of water is for jet skiing. im thinking of picking up a couple jet skis...probably a kawasaki stand up.
the night life i'm looking into is just somewhere i can go to chill, have a few drinks, and if i want to dance, be able to dance.
what's most appealing to me right now is the fact that i can get a big house for under $300k. i want a house big enough for me, my parents, and a couple dogs.
