Has anybody driven on the Salt Flats? If so, anything worth knowing ahead of time? Other than the obvious stuff that comes along with it being a salt flat. I've read on-line that as long as there aren't any official races going on anyone can drive on them as fast as they want (while obeying a few basic guidlines).

Most cars will need a good wash afterwards to get rid of the salt though. Anybody been there? How fast did you get your car up to?

I drove across them on the highway. The entire time I was wishing I had allowed extra time in my trip to get some high speed passes in the Tib. Figured I could get a bit of nice video footage also. Maybe some other time.
