Default Best .22 LR (Yep - Another Gun Thread)

Nothing I have is cheap to shoot. They are all fun (except maybe the .380), but I want a plinker. The range I frequent also has a pop up continuous fire range for rimfire I would prefer over shooting at paper.

Looking at stuff like the ruger 10/22

I would suggest one of two:

Ruger 10/22

Mag fed

All sorts of tacticool parts available

Marlin Model 60

Tube fed

WAY more accurate than a 10/22 unless you sink a ton of money into the 10/22

Costs less than 10/22

At 150 yards mine will group under 1" groups after more than 50k rounds have been run through it

Other fun options like he GSG 5 or a Calico are also good choices if you're more concerned with running a ton of rounds through the weapon for cheap than having an inexpensive weapon.

I had a remington 597 that I loved

Pretty accurate, mag fed, 30 round clip

Also had a marlin bolt action (dont remember the model number) which was a little more accurate

Of the 2 liked the remington more, had to reload less and fumble around less than the marlin

That sig does look pretty bad ass for a .22, lol

I didn't realize the Marlin was that much better than the ruger in terms of shooting straight.

and I like bolt actions, my 7.62 is bolt. However, if I am doing that pop up thing id rather have an auto loader.

I went with a Marlin auto loader. I almost got the remington 597, but the marlin was cheaper and I liked it's sights over the rem.

I am a fan of the Marlin 60, especially the older ones with full-length magazines (20+ rounds with a short OAL cartridge). They are easy to get for

Going to have to do that trigger upgrade.

Mine is the same as a 60 but it has a little magazine instead of the tube loader. I like it, ... .. . ... However.. they didn't tighten the freaking take down screws and one of them is missing. The rear is gone. The front was so loose I could turn it with my finger with a little pressure.. wth. Cheap part but they are on back order.. damn it.

That trigger job DIY is far-and-away the most popular thing I ever published online. Not surprising considering they made however many millions of the Model 60 . . . and the action is basically the same for all their self-loading .22s so it works on the 795, papoose, etc., etc.

If Marlin has the part on backorder, check Numrich . . . or do what Bubba would do and just grab a bolt from the bucket o' bolts in the garage!

Its a 795

and Numrich claims they have it in stock. I had to look under the 60, not much listed for mine. I have a feeling it will work.. heh.
