Looks like a good buy, though I have been a Geforce fan for some time now. To each thier own when it comes to some of this stuff though. As for the AGP part you might wanna look at some of the speeds that they are pulling finally out of some new PCI cards. The Geforce card that I have is equal to the one that you have now but I am running a P4 with 512 ram as well.

ATIs are awesome.

The 9600 is a good card - a 9800 (256mb) would have been SWEET - but you will like the 9600 for sure.

I'm an NVidia guy. I've had more than my share of problems with ATI cards and out of all of the NVidia cards I have never had a significant problem with one of them. Just IMO of course smile.gif

I'm Currently running a ATI 9700 Pro 128MB. Very good card. The AIW9600 is a good card, especially if you want the TV tuner, Video Capture capabilities.

If you were looking for soemthing that can play the lateset and greatest games like Doom III... The 9600 is going to be a little underpowered. Now you are talking about a 9600 and not a 9600 Pro or 9600 XT, right? Cause that makes a world of difference.

The 9600 Pro is a bit faster than the normal 9600, and the XT version is about as fast as a 9700 Pro (The card I have).

Doing a little bit of camparison shopping...
The AIW9600 cost you about 140-150 dollars right? So going off that price...
~$90-100 - X600 Pro 256mb (the new 9600)
~$120 - 9800 Pro 128mb.
~$170 - GeForce 6600 GT 128mb. (Very good card)
~$190 - X700 Pro 256mb.

I didn't realise this until doing a search this morning, but the PCI Express cards are ALOT cheaper than the AGP cards.
X700 Pro AGP 256mb = $190
vs.
X700 Pro PCI Express 256mb = $144, almost 50 dollars cheaper!

You have a good card, it can play the latest games, but not with the uber l337 gfx you might want. Actually, I dunno if your processor can handle Doom III let alone your video card. tongue.gif

couple questions, how much did you pay and what is px??

if you paid < 140 or so the it's a pretty good deal. I've got a ati 9600 (not by choice) and it's nice. I personally prefer nvidia since their drivers are nicer. I play half-life 2 with it on my amd xp 1800+ /w 512 of ram and it's nice and smooth on 1024x768.

btw, just incase your wondering now i had a nvidia ti 4200, it died and i redeemed it since it had a lifetime warranty with visiontek but they no longer make nvidia's so i got a ati... next time i upgrade i'm getting another nvidia.

edit: oh btw i personally would never buy a combo tuner/video card but to each his own. well i might if it was for a media center pc and i was trying to conserve space.
