Default Any way to mount a tv without a stud finder?

Got a new tv for christmas and a wall mount. I don't have a stud finder so what's the best way to mount it if I dont have something to find the stud? Any tips or advice other than going to the hardware store to buy a stud finder?

Knock on the wall. The studded areas are more solid sounding (go figure) and the drywall areas sound more hollow.

Get a stud finder. Don't be cheap.

Drill a hole every inch until you either see wood, sparks or water.
