300zx Or Muscle?
Im gonna be movin to GA for school and i figure wth why not get a real sports car. im lookin for around 8k or less and ill be trading in my tib sad.gif sorry guys. but i was wondering..
90-93 300zx (for insurance purposes)
OR
88-92 camaro
for the Z it will be NA because i cant find any decent TT with less than 130k miles. actually found a TT auto with HICAS! but i dont want an auto lol and its lil out of my range
for the camaro--- of course the iroc, aka z28. cant find these in stick tho
whats practical? im goin to be down in GA and come back to OH for holidays and what not. so which car would be best for that? im thinkin the 300. i also want to mod it slowly but surely and the camaro has far wider range of parts and price.

Dude, getting one of those "muscle" cars would be a serious downgrade. You won't get much for your trade in and if you get one of those cars, you're asking for huge repair bills. You'd be spending more money for something you'd be less happy with. Figure out what the price difference is and use the money to mod your tib. You will truly be amazed with what you could do with your tib. I think you just need some assurance that you have a nice car. I think all of us in the forum has been there at one time or another. I know I have. Now I can't be happier. 300whp, racing suspension, killer brakes... sometimes I don't believe I did it all.
how is it a downgrade? and what can i expect to possibly get for my trade in? 2k silver 5speed brand new drilled slotted rotors and pads all around installed this past friday, intake, cd player, plugs wires, tint. and i think id be incredibly happy with either of those cars. but you said figure out the price diff and use the money to mod my tib... what do you mean?
but 90% of the people on here dont have the money to make our cars have 300hp. i know i dont. thats why im lookin at cars that i could reach that goal quicker and cheaper.

Your choices are shitty. First the Camaro is just a plain shitbox. I can't believe you want practical and included this in your choices. It WILL break down. I guarantee it. LT1 sucks and the suspension MUST be replaced. Do you even know the problems that come with ANY 20yo car much less an American one?
The 300zx TT. Now that's not just a sportscar, but a super sportscar. But again, you want practical, and a lower insurance payment. So I guess it's out of the question for you.
The n/a, although looks nice, won't be nearly as fast as the turbo model. It runs mid 15's, which isn't much faster than a stock Tib. The handling has got to be shot too since it's pretty old. It can be good looking, but never a fast sportscar.
I love 300zx's and Tibs (I have both), so I would either shell out the cash for the turbo model, or stick to the Tib.

yes i know problems. actually had a 20 yr old car as my first one.
a 90-93 TT would be about what im paying now actually.
you say the NA could never be a fast sports car.. then why are you or any of us modding our tibs?

Because mine is turbocharged and won't cost nearly as much as turbocharging an n/a Z.
Turbocharging a nonturbo 300zx is lmao.gif
You might as well buy the turbo model.
You know they dont have the same motor right?
I'm just saying that 20yo cars will have crappy suspension and it isnt cheap to fix. Not to mention the creaks that you can never find.
Your best bet is to get a late model 300zx TT.

Word. Mileage isn't the only thing... when a car is that old, the suspension starts to sag, thinks get rusted out from it just sitting there, etc.
And yeah, the LT1 is garbage. If you wanted an upgrade, you'd have to go with something newer... like an 8 year old LS1... something like OP has.
None of us have ever claimed our N/A Tibs are fast sportscars lol.
I'd go with the 300zx just because its one of my favorite cars, however, there are a lot of people selling them that dont maintain them at all. I was about to buy one before my tib and it was a 90' had 89k on it and there was about two grand of work that needed to be put into it and the guy wanted to sell it for five grand. Stupid.
The 300 TT is hard to find in good shape (at least around here) and they can be pretty expensive. I've driven in an N/A 300 and everything was adequate enough for me, good pickup and real good suspension.
I say if you can find a 300ZX TT in good shape then get it, if not then get the N/A.
The 222hp in the N/A should be enough. fing02.gif

Folks, as cool as that car is it's soooo not worth it! My sister's BF has one, it's bodykitted and it's 5-speed V6. very quick car at that. The feeling of when you drive is good, but he's having many problems with it. He bought the car for $26,000, went to get a trade in value and now it's worth like $800. It's heavy, costs a B**CH to fill up the tank, it'll start fallin apart and rusting on you... and parts for it are mad arse to get. Just to give you example, just a cat-back exhaust which is difficult to find for it, costs a minimum of $800, and goes up to $1500. His steering is shot to hell too. Everything got old quick in that car.
Stick with the tiburon. I know because my sister's BF has one and he's had it for years but has never had the "golden balls" lmao.gif to ever drive it to florida. what fun is that!?!
shelling out insurance will be a pain in the arse for a 300zx. A tiburon is always a more economic choice though man. no matter how you put it. If you don't turbocharge a heavy 300zx V6, there's really not much you can do that you couldn't do with a new tiburon V6. So which one would you buy, 20 year old cracking, creaking, falling, rusting 300ZX V6 or a Brand spanking, sparkling, shining new Tiburon V6 for an estimated same cost?
