Default 240z twin hitachi su's

Anyone with experience with these carbs?

i got a 240z with L28 motor, its got 2 problems which stumped me.
1st is huge loss of power sometimes, sounds like lack of spark, smell
of fuel, minor backfires in intake manifold, cant rev past 2500rpm

2nd problem caught me out on the way home from work, this one
sounds like a fuel problem, either pump or float.
cant go more than 100m and the car stalls.

i havent looked at the fuel problem yet, but ive done a bit on the
other, plugs, wires, points, its really annoying, i think the dizzy might be screwed, it happens when going from light throttle
to acceleration.

any ideas?
thanks

1. sounds like either the advance mechanism is sticking on an older distributor, or the optical pickup is hosed. You didn't tell us what year 240Z you're talking about

2. Aren't there better forums out there for this? I'm sure there are 240Z forums...

Its 1973. dont ask me which carb type, i know theres a few, it has
the round top, dunno how many bolts.

there are forums, but i dont own the car, im only using it while
my coupe is in my garage, so couldnt hurt trying here wink

the retard problem is intermittent, sometimes it runs just sweet,
then it just goes bad while on the road, then comes good.

i'm pretty sure the carbs are hosed, they couldnt be adjusted properly
by the shop, so i think some reco's are the go.
thanks
