2005 Us Grand Prix
turn 13 of the us grand prix is the ONLY banked turn these cars run on throughout the whole season. it was putting some crazy g-forces on the tires, and the sidewalls were seperating from the belts. michelin asked to put a chicane in before the turn, but that violated the rules and would not have been fair to bridgestone. especially since bridgestone has been having problems all season with their tires.
why bridgestone's tires were ok?...
well, first off, this is the first season on this new set of tires. the rules now say that one set of tires has to last an entire race, with all 5 grooves being visible at the end. i dont think any teams did testing on banked turns. however, about a month prior to the race, bridgestone had similiar tires run on the track in a different series(where all cars use bridgestones...cant remember which cars it was). perhaps they identified the problem early and just kept their mouths shut.
BIG EDIT
