As many of you know, I have been playing with this for some time now. I finally got my unit working how I need it to be done. I was having issues with one of my injectors being wired incorrectly as well as having the Throttle Position Sensor and the Air Idle control valve being reversed wiring when I change engines 4 years ago. You also need to make sure all of your sensors are working correctly before you start, my narrow band had an issue. Performance has definately increased as well as returning over 31 mpg combined city and highway.

I have been wanting to put together a how to just to explain how simple this thing really is to plug and plan and get more performance and mileage.

The first thing you will need to do is find a vaccum source. Mine was a small line coming off of the back of the manifold to a canister on the firewall. All I did was T into it and add an $8 piece of hose from autozone and I was set to go, I got a piece 6 feet long. The hose hooks under the cable on the megasquirt case.

I then hooked up the OEM plug and megasquirt harnes to the OEM wiring harness.

I then hooked up my trusty old lap top with Megatune installed.

Turn your ignition switch to the on position.

There is a utility program in the MS download on KFX that identifies the port and baud speed you will find megasquirt in.

Open Megatune. and go to communications, set the port and baud speed from the information you retrieved from the utility program.

Next go to tools and select set TPR
inside this drop down you first select closed Throttle and push the get current button.

Then put your foot to the floor and do the same with get WOT current.

You should now be able to start the car. Maps and everything you need are included to start the car.

Once you allow the car to warm up, the car should idle and drive better than you did before.

I have my fuel set for 14.2 AFR, 19lb mustang injectors and of course 1800CC. If you want to change this, you can do it in the basic info tab and change the fuel calibration.

If it does not idle how you would like, you can make changes in the more settings/idle control tab.

By changing values in the PWM Idle you can raise or lower your idle speed which adjusts your stock idle motor.

My car was good to go at this point and I have over 500 miles of it working for me.

To verify this, I just received one of our new kits as it would be shipped to the customer.

After taking it out of the box, I set throttle position sensor. I change the AFR tobn what I am running and changed the injector setting match my injectors as the unit is configured for stock.

I started the car and it started right up first crank. I adjusted the idle down to 950 using the PWM idle adjustment from above.

I drove the car for a day and everything was just like in my car.

I am sending off the unit to G8Keeper to put into his car and dyno test this next weekend. Then he will check it out with his Individual throttle bodies.

We also have some maps available for the boosted cars. Underdog took a ride with Kia Kid this weekend and said the car is one of the fastest he has ridden in yet. And that is with 8 lbs boost. Kiakid has built the whole engine to withstand over 20 lbs, I can't wait!!!!

Nice. I can't wait to get mine put back in, probably do it this weekend.

Let me know when I can send mine in and pay the difference to upgrade. LOL

These kits are amazing how easy they are to use. After we got a good tune on mine, we turned on the logger for an hour of hard runs down a deserted airport road, then loaded the log into Megatune.

It then suggests a new map based on the readings, allows you to upload it to the ECU, and the new map runs better than ever.

Do it a few times...

BAM!

Do you really need to upgrade, the new units are based on what you are running. I still have one just like yours. The only reason for me to try the new one is to show how really simple this is to install and make work, I can even walk most people through it now.

You are using the same system?

Could you do me a favor? I haven't reinstalled mine for some time as I didn't do the initial tuning, just don't know the EXACT steps to it all. Can you do us a bit of a DIY on tuning with it? Step by step using megatune and such?

If you do, I'll send you some RDTiburon schwag for free.

sure it mite be a about a week before ill have time again ill try and take some pics and make it easier to understand. it is really easy to do as long as you know where to start ,with afr's and timing the rest will come out in the wash so to speak. megalog viewer is my chioce for tuning verses megatune. Ill cover that too though. Oh and Ive been squirting now since march of this past year so i have had lots of time to fine tune but still havent dynoed it yet . I got bumped off my dyno time but im going else where to do it. anyhow thats for a later post . Ill repost the diy here soon.
