Vehicle: 2002 Elantra GLS
Hey, how's it going? Let's see. I've got a 2002 Elantra GLS that is just approaching the 100K mark and needs some suspension work. All parts are original. It needs tie rod ends for sure. Since I'm going to be in there anyway, I'd like to figure out the most economical way to improve the performance/handling of the car. What would you consider the best way to assess the condition of the various suspension parts? Struts, Springs, Strut Mounts, Etc? Would getting standard aftermarket struts be enough? Would I want to put in GT sway bars? Or different bushings? A bolt-in strut bar? I don't want a race car, but I'd really like to tighten up the ride, y'know?

I think you can use the GK Tiburon rear sway bar. The Tiburon SE has a nice thick bar.
Struts will help a lot. KYB GR-2's will help out a bit. Koni yellow inserts will help out a lot.
At 100k miles your struts are probably bad. They wear out over time, usually long before they "blow". It's a safe assumption that replacing them would improve performance.

A good set of aftermarket lowering springs will do wonders for handling as well.
Like 187sks said, get yourself some good aftermarket struts, add the springs, front and rear strut bars, and the tib sway bar. The car will handle like its on rails. wink.gif
