Thank you , Thank you

My name is Grant, I'm from Charlottetown, PEI, Canada

I currently drive a 1988 Mazda 323 GTX and a 2005 Acura 3.2 TL but the Mazda will be gone as of this Thursday night and Im looking at other cars currently.

I just found this forum at random on the internet when I went looking for info on a 2001 Tiburon I'm looking at.

I will ask about these Tiburons on here and see if it will influence me into buying one. Then I will bug the hell out of you all for info, whahaha.

ok, so this will be my first official post and im not sure where to post it so I will do it right here.

I will be in the market soon for a second car as soon as my mazda is gone thursday night. I am looking at this car right here : http://www.canadatrader.com/result/detaili...gno=1&srt=1

What do I need to know about this car?, what should I look for?, any concerns or problems with these cars?, any and all suggestions and comments are welcome.

Welcome to a fellow Canadian!

If you're looking at a tib this is definitely the place to be. I remember being in your exact same shoes two years ago when I stumbled upon this forum and asked the same questions.

#1 Run a carfax report.

Try and bring it to a mechanic during your test drive for an inspection, they should be able to tell you what you need to know. If it's a standard, I think it's the 2nd gear syncro that seems to be a problem on some tib's, so make sure it shifts smoothly through all the gears. If it's an automatic, well, it's an automatic.

If you enjoy working on cars, the tib is great. I'm not saying you'll need to fix alot of things, it's just good to have some interest. The rear view mirror rattles alot but is a quick fix. The stock shifter has some play in it, but it's easily fixable or upgradeable. OEM wheel bearings seem to be a fairly common problem, but they are fairly easy to replace as well.

I definitely don't regret my purchase. I got mine for 7500 CAD w/ 87,000 KM, two years ago.

Let us know the details and we can help you make an informed decision.

Well, it is a standard, it originally came from Quebec, the dealer had the carfax report on it and it was clean. I did take it for a test drive and the only thing i noticed is that it seems that the emergency brake is too tight, feels like its on when you pull away in first gear, other than that it shifted fine.
I inspected the car myself and the only things I could see were the strut mounts themselves were rusty but the rubber wasn't cracked and the upper rad hose had a small leak.
The only thing I could get from a service manager from Hyundai about these cars was to make sure the timing belt was replaced immediately as it should have been replaced at 96,000kms.

Its definately a nice looking car, handles the bumps well and turns quickly but my suzuki sidekick with a 80hp 1.6 in it actually accelerated faster than this car, again , I'm just thinking that the parking brake is too tight. Lets hope it hasn't been like that for awhile or the car may have warped rear rotors.

The car has all the info on it on the autotrader page that I originally posted and it was just inspected this Monday by Coast Tire and did not need a thing.

If I do get this car, I am going to try to get it for $6000, taxes in.
