Hi, my name is Paul. I'm from Toronto, and I drive a 99 tiburon. I'm registered with hyundaiperformance.com, hyundaiclubeportugal.net, and hyundaiforum.com.

I bought my car 2 years ago, at 79,000km, and paid $3700 for it (did some smooth negotiating ;-)

As I mod my car, my theme is "blue flames". This may sound dumb to some of you, but I've nicknamed my tiburon, "Fury" (lol)

Only problems I've had so far on my tib were:

- bad spark plug wires caused a CEL
- rear bearings
- warped front rotor
- a few rust spots

problems I'm having right now (just noticed most of this 2 weeks ago):
- bad lower ball joints (bought the entire lower control arm to replace this week)
- bad inner and outer tie rods (also just bought them, to replace next week)
- rear brakes are gone (just bought them too, along with cross-drilled, slotted rear rotors) - to replace this week
- driver-side parking brake cable - gone (bought that too) - to replace this week
- driver and passenger-side cv boot - ripped and leaking grease - to replace next week
- had to replace fuel filter (did that this weekend)

mods and maintenance I've done to my car:

- front cross-drilled, slotted rotors
- leather seats from a 02 rsx
- leather rear seats from a 03 tiburon
- removed rust ALL over the place (including underneath car and inside fenders, doors,...), and painted it
- fixed a 2" deep, 2 foot metal damage to the rear side of the car (and painted it)
- tinted windows (50% front, 80% back)
- 16" prime rims, 3 spoke. 205-45-16 rubber.

mods to be done over the next 2 months (all already purchased):
- alarm install
- sound system (1000W peak, 100rms x 4 channels @ 4ohms) + 400W rms subwoofer and amp, pioneer deh7700
- sound deadening
- under-dash blue neons
- gps to be built into a custom fibre-glass casing and to be integrated into the ashtray
- all green LEDs to be changed to blue
- dome light to be added
- holder casing for your glasses (by the map lights), to be converted into a navigation/temperature monitor
- in-dash clock colour - change to blue
- blue painted dash

mods to be done
- short-shifter
- aluminum mats
- aftermarket cluster panel
- ds pillar pod gauges (oil, volt, fuel consumption)
- short-ram
- painted engine bay (blue)
- not sure which body kit, yet
- act 4puck or organic street clutch kit
- transmission under-cover
- 2.25" inlet performance exhaust
- 4-2-1 headers
- engine bay lighting (blue ;-)
- custom paint job (blue -half way of the car, and red to the back), with custom flames free-painted on the hood and fenders

I'm sure this is not an exhaustive list of everything I plan to do, but this is most of it.

I'd like to write-up a few diy's which I think the tiburon is missing, stuff mostly to do with maintenance (tie rods, ball joints, lca, suspension, ...)

Anyway, I hope to learn from you guys and hopefully have you there to help me through my dream of modifying the Fury ;-)

cool. Thanks! I'll check out prdonline.com.

As for pics, I plan to post them within the next couple of weeks when I'm done fixing the suspension/steering problems I'm currently having. Right now it's on jack stands with all 4 tires off :-)

I want to see the RSX seats. How were those to fit?

Hey Ericy321,

yeah, I'll post pics for that, and if you're interested, I can do a diy. It was totally do-able. There's a local guy, here, who can do custom seat brackets for most seats. The good thing between the Tiburon and some Hondas is that there is a lot of symmetry, and so you can interchange quite a few things with relative ease.

After I took my seats to the guy, to be sure he could do the custom bracket for me, he said he'd charge me $100. I wouldn't mind having paid him that much, but I don't know, I don't trust my car with mechanics or others working on it; I'm one of those types who feels that if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself! So I took the car home, that day, put in the seats, and tried to mock-fit them (ie. without actually doing any drilling, etc). I was surprised to see that the fit was really damn close!, with the exception of one side of the brackets. For example, for the driver-side bracket 3 sides fit over the tiburon existing holes!!!! That was 75% of the work done for me. The only trouble part was only one side of the bracket. In the example of the driver-side, the left bracket (the one by the driver-side door), the front part of the bracket, the hole was placed on a metal which ran vertically, as opposed to the tiburon where all 4 holes in the bracket run horizontally. So I just moved the bracket 1" back towards the rear of the car, and with a tap, I created a custom thread to thread that part of the bracket. Don't worry if I'm not being clear enough, 'cause if you're interested (or anyone else), let me know, and I'll post pics along with a diy.

The only negative part of the seats are: the seat is much higher than the Tiburon's (it's actually 38 inches high, instead of 26, or something, of the tiburon). This means that if someone wants to get onto the back seat, when they tilt the front seat forward (so as to get back there), the top of the seat hits the sun visor and doesn't go as low as the tiburon seat. Other than that, you feel higher on the seat, so your hair scrapes the ceiling of the tiburon. To compensate, you have to tilt the seat a bit backwards.

The positive: they are NICE seats, leather, clean look, and look sporty! as well as different! That's what I'm looking for in my car: a different look. I'm tired of seeing apc seats, or even the stock leather seats. My aim is to have my car look different. Plus, I got the seats for $350, for both! What a deal! There's another guy who's still selling the EXACT same seats, on craigslist, for $600 (that's as low as he would go for me).

You can fix the problem of hitting the visor with the front seat by removing the back seats, then they won't have a need to go back there. wink1.gif Look up the DIY for the two seater conversion. fing02.gif
