Hi,

My name is Mike I'm from Ohio but currently serve in the United States Army at Ft. Lewis, Wa. I found these forums when I was doing some research on a problem that has plagued my car for a considerable amount of time. I'm surprised and excited to see such a large community of tiburon enthusiasts. A little bit about my car; I purchased my 04 Tiburon GT SE from Ripp Mods in Staten Island, NY with most of the mods already done to the vehicle (you may have seen the 311hp dyno test, it used to be their show car). At the time of delivery the car had ~9k miles, it now has ~15k. They were originally selling the car NA with no FI. However after talking to Ross for a while we came to an agreement that for at a reduced price he would install one of the lightly used SC kits he had at his shop.

After having the car for a few weeks I noticed an oil leak from the bottom of the Vortech blower. I took it to a performance shop which confirmed my worse fears: I had a blown compression seal. I was able to redeem the warranty through Ripp Mods on the blower and sent it in to Vortech to have it rebuilt for just the cost of shipping. Actually, I had to pay for the shipping 4x. When my shop sent in the blower the first time we had left the drive shaft connected to the blower. Vortech was not happy about this at all and politely refused to dismantle the blower from said shaft, saying "they did not have the tools to take it apart,"

This is when it went downhill. When we got the blower back it was in great, newly built shape. The same night after my shop had reinstalled the SC kit, I went to pull into my barracks parking lot. What followed could only be described as like my engine had got kicked square in the face. The bearing in the drive shaft that runs across the engine had failed, sending it into the pulley and pretty much making a huge mess underneath my hood. It turns out that Vortech likely did not want to dismantle the unit because of liability issues. After the fact, Ross had told me it should have come back to his shop first because the kits are handmade by their technicians, something I wish I had been informed of earlier. Anyways, my shop assured me they were going to take care of it and were going to get it fixed. After a week or so of communication between my shop and Ripp Mods, we sent the entire kit back to Staten Island. Shortly there after I received a phone call from my shop telling me there was a problem. They had not seen to much other damage than what had been inflicted on the pulley and the drive shaft. However Ripp Mods was telling them that they were going to have to buy a whole new kit. My shop was unable to do this (thats a whole different story), but after a little bit of bartering we came to a deal. Unfortunately I would for atleast the near future, have to run the car naturally aspirated.

The problems started mounting from here. It turns out upon closer examination a lot of the wires and harness on the vehicle had been spliced and or completely cut. What also has been a problem is that the wires in the drivers floorboard fusebox had been re-routed to different fuses. Which means that some things like the AC, horn, and other things are not operable. The condition of some of these wires are probably a likely culprit of my current problems. Now I am not very good with car electronics at all, so I am going to leave this up to a professional. What my current mechanic has told me however is that it isn't going to be cheap to figure out what was all done to the electronics, reverse it, and replace the wires. Now, some of the alterations can be explained by the list of modifications that will follow.

In conclusion, I felt you guys should be aware of the history of my car because in the next few days I will be putting together a detailed report on the current performance issue(s) I am facing. I'm really stumped on this one. God willing I'll be able to produce some audio and video clips for you guys, so you could maybe get a better idea. Thanks in advance for your help, and I'm glad to have found these forums.
