I have a 2000 Tib, and was wondering if that year has a Timing Chain or a belt? If so how often do yall change it?

It has a belt, I just talked to a dude at my dealership who said he's going to try to get the tech to change it for me for FREE while my car is in there lol.gif

Oh, and he said 60,000 miles is a good time to do it. So, you should probably go ahead and get it done.

OFFTOPIC - How about getting a real location in your profile?

Much appreciated Moo. I've got another 15K miles to go but will probably go ahead and get it over with.

OK I tried doing a search, and no matter what type in it says no results, I would understand if I was being very specific, but I searched using very vague terms and it still turned up nothing (i.e. engine, 1.8, timing, valve) and nothing turned up? wtf?

tibwrcsbj - what would a 1.8 cam change?

tibwrcsbj and Moo, Thanks for answering my question directly

Anyway, on the old site:

http://www.rdtiburon.com/old/index.php?nam...ht=timing+chain
http://www.rdtiburon.com/old/index.php?nam...ht=timing+chain
Brendan's old site:
with pix
http://webhome.idirect.com/~trini/car/cam.html
1.8 Cam

See the timing chain on the right, and your timing belt on the left:

Connects your intake and exhaust cams (Hence why are cars are DOHC, Dual OverHead Cam)

Do more searching on the old site, seems to be working ok.

I see, while we are on the topic of engine and performance and all. Don't laugh but I was trying to find a way to improve the gas mileage as much as possible. See I am an electrician and until I move closer to my job, I have 116 mile round trip every day 5 times a week, 52 weeks... you get the idea. I am seeming to get like 300 miles to the tank(If i do 80mph+ the whole way) and like 330 miles per tank (70ish). And good god tibs have a short 5th gear!!! 80mph = 3900-4000rpm. Anyway, Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

that does not sound like too bad miliage.. right near 30 like I get..

you want short gears.. my fiat does 70mph at 4000rpms.... the tib is a relaxed highway crusier in comparision.
