Hi Everyone,

I'm Li-il Bullet and I reside in Johannesburg South Africa.

I recently bought a RD1 Tubiron 1998 model (see at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2294428/2) as this was one of my dream cars.

I was just wondering.... A rock hit the gearbox casing resulting in a totally broken box because it ran without oil.

Is there anyone who can give me some advise if another make of Hyundai will actually fit my car's mountings and engine block.

These cars are VERY scarce in South Africa with more Elantra's on the road than Tiburons.
Will an Elantra box fit or not.

BTW this is a 5 speed manual box. Engine is a 2.0l 16v Car 1998 model Tiburon

Please forgive me if this is a repeated question but I can't seem to find a direct answer anywhere.

THANK YOU for your advise in advance!

Regards

You car has a 2.0l Beta1 engine in it. Any transmission from a Tiburon/Elantra 2.0 will be a direct swap. Elantra have the beta engines in them as well but in 2001 they have the beta2 where the Tiburon didnt get the beta2 till the GK hit the market. Hope this helps.. and welcome to the site.

I believe a 1996-2000 will be the exact same transmission. A 2001+ with a 2.0L would probably work too, but you may have some minor problems

I believe the 1996-2000 Elantra has the same engine and transmission as the 1996-2001 Tiburon
I believe the 2001+ Elantra has the same engine and transmisison as the 2003+ 4cylinder Tiburons

he actually meant grinding... there is a part of the tranny mount that you need to grind off to make it fit nicely, just do a search along the lines of "transmission swap or tranny swap" you only have to do this grinding if you will be using the beta2 (newer transmission) that comes out of the 2003-up tiburons and 2001-up elantras

welcome to the site. btw

additionally a 1.8L elantra transmission also will work, and will give you slightly shorter gears for a little better acceleration.

any pre 2003 elantra tranny will work without problems, as was said before, the post 2003 tranny's also work but there is a little adjusting to be made.

And welcome on, the reason your search was empty was most likely because i believe you searched "transmission box" and we hardly refer to the manual transmission as anything but transmission, tranny, and perhaps gearbox. Just future reference in case you want to do more related searching
