Hey all, 2001 2.0L auto Tiburon owner here out of Ohio. I’ve just recently became interested in adding a bit more to my car. Over the past few days I have spent several hours just reading over these and the hyundaiperformance forums in an attempt to educate myself as much as possible before posting. Coming in I knew that hp+torque-weight = good. I any case I have here what I think is i/h/e upgrade as a goal to get me started. Any input would be very much appreciated. Also this list is probably upside down from the way I would actually be doing things.

Magnecor or Nology spark plug wires: w/ iridum or silver plugs

AEM CAI w/ K&N filter:
http://shop.hyundaiperformance.com/shop/it...p?i=AEM_21-520R

Headers:
OBX 4-2-1
http://www.importshark.com/ProductImages/E...ders/OBX421.htm
high-flow cat and possible glasspack(if noise resulting from the obx I understand)

Exhaust:
This is where I can’t seem to find a decisive answer. Something I am pretty sure of here is that I want a Catback system. I would prefer not to mess with finding someone to do a nice mandrel-bend the way I want (which I don’t know) without mandrel-bending me over. The Motoria sounds alright if I could find it in stock. I’d like to stay under 400-450$max on this exhaust for now. KRD perhaps, or RSide now? but I cant find anything on either for the 01. Something between Motoria and APEX. Something between OBX and GTkspec headers too actually.
Another thing, the size of piping. From what I have read it sounds like 2.25” is the best for non-turbo, while 2.5 for turbo. I do understand that I would ditch the header if I went turbo. I don’t plan on going turbo, at least not any time soon, but I would like to keep that option available.

To clarify on my main questions.

1. Is there a 4-2-1 header in between OBX and kspec in quality/price?

2. Is it true 2.25 piping is best for non-turbo?

3. If I go 2.5 without getting turbo, potentially ever, how much hp am I missing out on? (would I be able to feel it? because I’m not even sure what an 8hp difference feels like at the moment, 8hp being a random #)

4. And finally, for under 450$(not worried about shipping for now) what’s going to be my best Catback system?

And please just disregard my automatic transmission. I know it’s slower for now. I’ve done a bit of research on torque converters and manual-swaps, but that’s a ways away for me.
Thanks much for any info.

for plugs and wires, stick with the PRD wires, and ngk v-power plugs, both are cheaper then what u said, and both are better in mu opinion

I would suggest magnecor wires (nology are too expensive for what you get) or NGK wires (much cheaper but still good, about $45).

I would suggest get the KSpec headers.

I would suggest AEM CAI but the filters don't affect much in my opinion, any cone filter should work fine.

I would suggest 2.25" catback, however brand name, I'm not sure. We need more exhaust brands.

I would NEVER suggest the Magnecors, they just aren't worth the cost.

The PRD's are the best wires for the cost I've seen or had.

Headers, go for the best. OBX aren't great, I had a set and got rid of them. Hwrang's are okay, but never seen them in person. The Maintecs are the best headers I've ever seen.

I've never seen PRD's so I can't comment on them. I've always used NGK. PRD seem to be a favorite among those who have them. I'm content with my $50 set of NGK 8.5mm wires

True.

But consider this.

I'm running NGK's now, and going to PRD's.

1. Not Really, it's either or right now.

2. Yes 2.5" is more popular but 2.25" isn't too bad. See #3 for clarification

3. 2.25" is good for NA, but 2.5" leaves room for when/if you go the turbo route, without hurting low end power. That's why it's a popular choice, it works for both routes.

4. Motoria. 2.25" catback. You can get it from Importshark for $300 I think.

For the cai you can find one a lot cheaper, I got mine for 180 shipped, actually the guy sent 2 and am waiting for him to get it, the cheapest headers are the obx on ebay, with a racing cat=no cat you will have a buzz, I think my motoria exhaust was 280 at importshark, good luck with it all

welcome fey, I would definately go with the AEM intake as it's one of the best, if not the very best available for our Tibs. As far as the OBX header, it works well but it tends to rust up pretty fast so I'd save up and buy one of the more expensive headers and then get it ceramic coated. wink1.gif

Thanks for the info thus far all.

Silver, I'm curious why 2.25 is good for NA and if I chose to go 2.5 (just in case) would i be losing any power, NA?

Also, does anyone know if you can add just add ceramic coating, maybe in different colors yourself?
